Sony touts 3-D, motion-control gaming at E3Date: Wed, 16. June 2010 15:05:41
Sony is moving forward with its 3-D and motion-control gaming plans. The game maker announced Tuesday that 20 3-D games would be released for its PlayStation 3 console by March 2011 while 40 games that utilize PlayStation Move, the console's new motion-control system, would be out in time for the holiday season. Unlike Microsoft's Xbox 360 or Nintendo's Wii, the ...
Nintendo?s Wii U voice chat mess: Console might not support wireless headsetsDate: Sat, 20. October 2012 10:44:40
Other than the unique touchscreen-equipped GamePad controller, the Wii U is a console that isn?t too different from this generation?s Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It?s Nintendo?s (NTDOY) ?catch up? console that finally adds high-definition graphics, a robust selection of video content through Nintendo TVii and an online gaming platform that the company says will finally compete with Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Both of those services support voice chat during gaming sessions online and they both support wireless headsets, but the Nintendo Wii U might not even have simple voice chat down without a convoluted setup, according to Kotaku. According to Kotaku, the Wii U only supports voice chat with the Wii U GamePad for ?select games? such as Call
GameStop warns that Microsoft could ?significantly diminish? appeal for new Xbox if it bans usedDate: Fri, 8. February 2013 16:24:11
Information surrounding Microsoft?s (MSFT) next-generation Xbox leaked earlier this week and suggested that the system will require an always-on Internet connection. The report also reinforced earlier rumors that claimed Microsoft?s new console would be unable to play used games. Speaking to Bloomberg on Friday, GameStop (GME) spokesman Matt Hodges cited a company survey that found consumers would be less likely to buy a console that limits trading in pre-owned games. ?We know the desire to purchase a next-generation console would be significantly diminished if new consoles were to prohibit playing pre-owned games, limit portability or not play new physical games,? Hodges said. Microsoft is expected to unveil its next-generation Xbox at the E3 gaming conference this summer. The console is
PlayStation 4 may be able to stream PlayStation 3 gamesDate: Mon, 18. February 2013 22:26:33
Sony (SNE) has offered backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 2 and select models of the PlayStation 3, however it was rumored that older games would not be supported on the PlayStation 4 due to the move to an AMD chipset. But according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the company isn?t prepared to leave the classics behind with the release of its new gaming console. Sony will reportedly use technology that it acquired from cloud gaming firm Gaikai last July that can stream older games to the PlayStation 4. It is unclear how the company will charge for streamed games but it may be the case that users will be forced to purchase online versions of games they
How Samsung plans to make the Galaxy S 4 a mini-gaming console [video]Date: Mon, 18. March 2013 21:42:13
Samsung (005930) isn?t content to challenge Apple (AAPL) with the Galaxy S 4 ? it apparently wants to challenge Sony (SNE) and Nintendo (NTDOY) in the portable gaming console realm as well. Forbes contributor John Gaudiosi writes that the vast improvements in smartphone technology over the last couple of years mean that ?the gap between consoles and portable games is closing? and that Samsung plans to capitalize on this by releasing ?a Game Arcade gamepad that looks very similar to an Xbox 360 controller with dual analog sticks and shoulder.? It?s certainly true that smartphones and tablets have been eating away at sales of portable gaming consoles, so Samsung?s move to position the Galaxy S 4 as a mini-console alternative seems
New Xbox more than a game console for MicrosoftDate: Sat, 18. May 2013 11:17:07
By Malathi Nayak and Bill Rigby SAN FRANCISCO/SEATTLE (Reuters) - Microsoft Corp is set to make a splash this week with the eagerly awaited unveiling of its new Xbox game console, eight years after the last version, as it seeks a larger share of the $65 billion a year global computer gaming industry. But the small device faces some big competition from the PlayStation 4 by Sony Corp and the Wii U by Nintendo Co Ltd in a shifting market. ...

(AHN) - Nintendo has announced a price cut for its popular Wii game console. Nintendo's fifth gaming console debuted at $249 in November 2006, and will now receive a $50 price drop as it competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3.
6 Reasons To Buy A PlayStation 3 Instead Of An Xbox 360Date: Tue, 19. June 2012 02:14:17
VideoIf you still don't have a current generation video game console, you may want to consider the PlayStation 3 over the Xbox 360. Here's why. When it comes to console gaming, it's close to a toss-up between Sony's PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360. If you're a serious Nintendo fan, the
Nintendo's big, pricey bet on 3-DDate: Wed, 26. January 2011 23:24:40
The Nintendo 3DS arrives in U.S. stores on March 27 for $250 ? that's the same price Nintendo launched its Wii console for back in 2006. That $250 price tag puts it in direct competition with the current line-up of consoles, with the Wii and Xbox 360 now selling for $200 and the Playstation 3 selling for $300. Will gamers be willing to pay that price?
Console Makers Worry Over Apple's Growing CompetitionDate: Mon, 28. September 2009 03:07:06
The NY Times is running a story about the effect Apple is having on the console gaming market, making Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo worry that consumers will be satisfied playing games on devices that aren't necessarily focused on gaming. Quoting: "The concerns highlight an accelerating shift away from hard-core games, which have traditionally driven console sales, to more casual ones played on cellphones. Of the 758 new game titles shown at the Tokyo Game Show, 168 were for cellphone platforms mdash; more than twice as many as in the previous year. ... Apple's assault could even eat into sales of home consoles like Nintendo's Wii, Sony's PlayStation 3 or Microsoft's XBox, as game-playing quickly becomes centered on cellphones. Many in the industry say that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft need to explore more radical changes to their businesses, including an emphasis on software rather than hardware and a better way for users to download games. 'As a platform, the cellphone has the biggest potential, because everybody owns one,' said Kazumi Kitaue, chief executive at another game maker, Konami Digital Entertainment. A family with three children might buy just one Wii or PlayStation to share, but those children will probably have cellphones of their own and download and play games, Mr. Kitaue said."pa href="http://apple.slashdot.org/story/09/09/27/0126230/Console-Makers-Worry-Over-Apples-Growing-Competition?from=rss"img src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=09/09/27/0126230"/a/ppa href="http://apple.slashdot.org/story/09/09/27/0126230/Console-Makers-Worry-Over-Apples-Growing-Competition?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p
