The Nintendo 3DS arrives in U.S. stores on March 27 for $250 ? that's the same price Nintendo launched its Wii console for back in 2006. That $250 price tag puts it in direct competition with the current line-up of consoles, with the Wii and Xbox 360 now selling for $200 and the Playstation 3 selling for $300. In a surprise move, Nintendo has announced that it is cutting the price of its almost-brand-new Nintendo 3DS game machine by $80. The device ? which plays video games in 3-D ? has only been on the market five months. Nintendo announced the fire sale after reporting large quarterly financial losses.

Digital Trends - Announced by Nintendo in an official statement earlier today, the gaming company has plans to release two high profile first party titles as well as a new hardware accessory for the 3DS handheld gaming system. On the 3DS, Nintendo scheduled the launch of Kid Icarus: Uprising for March 23 as well as the Circle Pad Pro, an accessory that provides a second control pad for the right side of the device as well as shoulder buttons similar to a PlayStation 3 controller. Nintendo mentioned that third party companies Capcom and Konami are planning to release Resident Evil Revelations on February 7 and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on an undetermined date during the first quarter of 2012. Other third party titles coming out during early 2012 include TEKKEN 3D Prime Edition, Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, Rayman® Origins and Pro Evolution Soccer 2012

Nintendo's E3 press conference was an eventful one, with announcements for a new Super Mario Bros. Wii, a sequel to Super Mario Galaxy, and a new entry into the Metroid franchise by Team Ninja. The new Mario Bros. game will be available for the holiday season, and the other two are scheduled for 2010. Nintendo also confirmed an updated version of the Wii Fit, called the Wii Fit Plus (trailer), due out this fall.
