NFL to hold more games in Great Britian

Date: Sun, 25. October 2009 04:43:12
London is calling, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is listening. Tomorrow, for the third year in a row, the NFL will hold a game at London's Wembley Stadium. The New England Patriots will take to the field in Wembley to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wembley stadium sits around 90,000 fans, and the place will be packed for tomorrow's game. This has led the NFL to plan for staging more games in the UK, and possibly even placing a NFL franchise there one day. The NFL is looking at venues in Manchester, and Glasgow, Scotland as the sites for future games.

NVIDIA Driver Update Causing Video Cards To Overheat In Games

Date: Fri, 5. March 2010 15:05:00
After a group of StarCraft II beta testers reported technical difficulties following the installation of NVIDIA driver update 196.75, Blizzard tech support found that the update introduced fan control problems that were causing video cards to overheat in 3D applications. "This means every single 3D application (i.e. games) running these drivers is going to be exposed to overheating and in some extreme cases it will cause video card, motherboard and/or processor damage. If said motherboard, processor or graphic card is not under warranty, some gamers are in serious trouble playing intensive games such as Prototype, World of Warcraft, Farcry 3, Crysis and many other games with realistic graphics." NVIDIA said they were investigating the problem, took down links to the new drivers, and advised users to revert to 196.21 until the problem can be fixed.pa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/03/05/0739241/NVIDIA-Driver-Update-Causing-Video-Cards-To-Overheat-In-Games?from=rss"img src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=10/03/05/0739241"/aa href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fgames.slashdot.org%2Fstory%2F10%2F03%2F05%2F0739241%2FNVIDIA-Driver-Update-Causing-Video-Cards-To-Overheat-In-Games" target="_blank" title="Share on Facebook"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"/a a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=NVIDIA+Driver+Update+Causing+Video+Cards+To+Overheat+In+Games%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2FaExprd" target="_blank" title="Share on Twitter"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"/a/ppa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/03/05/0739241/NVIDIA-Driver-Update-Causing-Video-Cards-To-Overheat-In-Games?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/JttpDP056Wh_HW0F-Mk5B5TaZZY/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/JttpDP056Wh_HW0F-Mk5B5TaZZY/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/JttpDP056Wh_HW0F-Mk5B5TaZZY/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/JttpDP056Wh_HW0F-Mk5B5TaZZY/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~4/FaWMjG1zpIs" height="1" width="1"/

Breathing New Life Into Old DirectDraw Games

Date: Tue, 7. September 2010 06:33:22
An anonymous reader writes "I bought a bunch of old Wing Commander games for Windows, but they use DirectDraw, which Microsoft has deprecated. They don't work too well under Windows 7, so I ended up reimplementing ddraw.dll using OpenGL to output the games' graphics. I wrote an article describing the process and all the fun workarounds I had to come up with, and released all related source code for others to hack on."pa href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fgames.slashdot.org%2Fstory%2F10%2F09%2F07%2F0344257%2FBreathing-New-Life-Into-Old-DirectDraw-Games" target="_blank" title="Share on Facebook"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/facebook_icon_large.png"/a a href="http://twitter.com/home?status=Breathing+New+Life+Into+Old+DirectDraw+Games%3A+http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F9po8Uc" target="_blank" title="Share on Twitter"img src="http://a.fsdn.com/sd/twitter_icon_large.png"/a/ppa href="http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/09/07/0344257/Breathing-New-Life-Into-Old-DirectDraw-Games?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./piframe src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?op=discussamp;id=1778944amp;smallembed=1" style="height: 300px; width: 100%; border: none;"/iframeimg width='1' height='1' src='http://slashdot.feedsportal.com/c/32909/f/530758/s/d7f3d2d/mf.gif' border='0'/ pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/_Ex_Y9BJKMQ3Iafz7-wNtxP2yq4/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/_Ex_Y9BJKMQ3Iafz7-wNtxP2yq4/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/_Ex_Y9BJKMQ3Iafz7-wNtxP2yq4/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/_Ex_Y9BJKMQ3Iafz7-wNtxP2yq4/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~4/Eo5oe89MMXY" height="1" width="1"/

Linux Games For Non-Gamers?

Date: Mon, 12. October 2009 15:05:35
Nethead writes "Due to some down-time, I'm looking for some Linux games to pass the time. I've been playing BattleMaster, a PHP web game but it's only two turns a day, and I'd like something a bit faster. I've not really played PC games since the Doom era so I'm really out of touch here. I don't have a real gamer box, just a simple video card. What do Slashdotters think I should try? A simple FPS or some type of networked game would do. What's out there for Linux?"pa href="http://linux.slashdot.org/story/09/10/12/0134252/Linux-Games-For-Non-Gamers?from=rss"img src="http://slashdot.org/slashdot-it.pl?from=rssamp;op=imageamp;style=h0amp;sid=09/10/12/0134252"/a/ppa href="http://linux.slashdot.org/story/09/10/12/0134252/Linux-Games-For-Non-Gamers?from=rss"Read more of this story/a at Slashdot./p pa href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/7zrzoN-SfuGjd50nl66P8h3WfaY/0/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/7zrzoN-SfuGjd50nl66P8h3WfaY/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/abr/ a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/7zrzoN-SfuGjd50nl66P8h3WfaY/1/da"img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~at/7zrzoN-SfuGjd50nl66P8h3WfaY/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"/img/a/pimg src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Slashdot/slashdot/~4/SQZCk2iJvDc" height="1" width="1"/
